Introduction

Puasa is a religious practice that is widely observed by Muslims around the world. In Indonesia, the majority of Muslims follow the guidelines set by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), one of the largest Islamic organizations in the country. NU has its own set of rules and regulations regarding when to start and end the Ramadan fast, as well as other types of fasting throughout the year.

What is Puasa?

Puasa is the act of abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset. It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, along with Shahada (faith), Salat (prayer), Zakat (charity), and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca).

Kapan Puasa Menurut NU?

The start and end of Ramadan, as well as other types of fasting, are determined by the sighting of the moon. NU follows the traditional Islamic calendar, which is based on the lunar cycle. This means that the start and end of Ramadan can vary from year to year.

NU relies on a group of experts called Rukyatul Hilal to determine the exact date of the start and end of Ramadan. The group observes the sky and searches for the first sighting of the new moon. Once the moon is sighted, NU announces the start of Ramadan.

Types of Fasting

NU recognizes several types of fasting throughout the year, including:

  • Ramadan fasting
  • Shawwal fasting (6 days of fasting after Ramadan)
  • Dzulhijjah fasting (10 days of fasting during the Islamic month of Dzulhijjah)
  • Ashura fasting (the 10th day of Muharram)
  • Ayyamul Bidh fasting (13th, 14th, and 15th days of Islamic calendar)

Ramadan Fasting

Ramadan is the most important month of the Islamic calendar. It is the month of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection. NU requires all able-bodied Muslims to fast during Ramadan, except for those who are sick, pregnant, breastfeeding, or traveling.

During Ramadan, Muslims are also required to perform Tarawih, a special prayer that is performed after Isha prayer. NU recommends performing Tarawih in congregation, although it is not mandatory.

The End of Ramadan

The end of Ramadan is marked by the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, a three-day festival that signifies the end of the fasting month. NU recommends performing Eid al-Fitr prayer in congregation, although it is not mandatory.

Conclusion

Kapan puasa menurut NU is determined by the sighting of the moon, and NU follows the traditional Islamic calendar. NU recognizes several types of fasting throughout the year, with Ramadan fasting being the most important. The end of Ramadan is marked by the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

As Muslims, it is important to observe the guidelines set by NU and to perform our religious duties with sincerity and devotion. By doing so, we can strengthen our faith and improve our relationship with Allah SWT.
